Snake-Eyes Ash did nothing wrong

As a very new player, I’m not sure I have any particularly powerful strengths, but I’ll say the very large amount of questions I ask has lead to some very fast improvement. A huge weakness of mine (not just in yugioh but other games) is over prioritizing recursion. I don’t like doing something in a game knowing I won’t be able to do it again. This often results in not making more “high risk high reward” plays and comes up a lot in deck building when I run 2 cards I should probably run one of just in case it gets negated, banished etc.

Need a Jonouchi/Joey Structure Deck reloaded. Only Kaiba and Yugi got one in the past (before) 2016. Now its his time to shine.. in a modern format.

I played a lot more Yu-Gi-Oh when we had regular structure deck releases. In that sense, Yu-Gi-Oh is dead to me.

The way I see it, people who try to pull the “you’re just a casual” cars are either new viewers or viewers who don’t know your history with the game. Your knowledge helped me back when I was actively playing and improved my play heaps when I was starting to play in events

Im sorry, but each time I get a booster and it's full of combo cards, I don't have the structure deck for it. It feels like wasted money. One card combos are for the booster buyers.

I don't think one card combos are the problem atm. It's the fact that extenders nowadays are still the combo. Snake-eye was a mistake only because the combo can basically be done by every starter and extender. There is no true choke point for most handrtaps if they have the extender and that's where my main issue is. Everything does the same thing so it's hyper consistent

it just removes all "strategy"/luck factors that make a game different each time and give you the "adrenaline rush" of having that last key or salvation on the next draw. Having all that 1 card "recipe", turns you into a "bot" following a really cheap algorithms... Dang I bet it is currently possible to determine the winner just by looking the initial draw of each player and knowing who goes first (duel masters should add an option to advice to give up due "starting conditions" so you could search a new game faster

Yes. They need to stop and think about the state of the game because at the rate things are going we may need a reboot just to remove all the zero teir and extra deck problems that they are having.

In my experience as a former Yugioh player the biggest issue is that most Yugioh players just want to play their game, rather than interact with their opponent in any meaningful way. And that goes beyond floodgates. Back when Mystic Mine was everywhere so many players still refused to play spell based spell/trap removal and then went on to cry about how unfair Mystic Mine is. As far as I can tell that's still the case with any floodgate that isn't a monster.

Playing the "Edison" event in MD, I can see why people like that format. It really felt like, at any time, whoever had more cards in hand had a bigger advantage. Modern ygo still has that but the number of cards in your opponents hand matter less, the exception being handtraps. On my turn, I'm worried if they have hand interaction. On their turn, I'm worried they have the 1 card starter. Both being about 80% likely. Edison I'm worried about them drawing the "out" after a comeback

There are very few decks that need pendulums. Like Crystal Beast are fine with them cause you need to get 7 whole monsters on the field at once, but most deck have searches

I'd understand competitive players more if there was an actual incentive to play competitively. It's far from viable to play yu-gi-oh for a living and all I see and hear are comments about how "x" format was so bad, thank god for "y" set of cards coming out. Then a few months pass and "y" format is the new evil. Then there is the issue of decks costing thousands of dollars and being "rotated" out when the banlist and a few sets comes out. And after all that complaining about the game, the competitive player base look down on the casual scene like they're "missing out" on how the game should be played and don't "actually" play or understand yu-gi-oh. Meanwhile the casual players are just havin' the time of their life playing their pet decks with friends!I Wonder who's truly winning sometimes...

The modern game is too fast for me, I'd love to see you share your awesome knowledge in a "how to start master duel in 2024" type video. I've had it installed for months but it's so daunting to start it

Yugioh is a fundamentally broken game, where not only is there no downside to playing a powerful card, you're rewarded so much that it's the only way to reasonably play, making it unbalanced in a "rich get richer" scenario. One card combos are definitely a large part of the problem. The power of engines, the removal of costs, the extent of recursion, and the lack of restrictions all come together with it: An engine only needs a certain number of cards in the deck, and with the right one or two, you can full combo easily. Needing so few cards means you can also run the staples that less powerful decks try to run just to keep up, but use them to keep those decks from getting started in the first place, especially since you don't have to use them as resources for a cost. Recursion means unless your opponent OTKs you, you can do it all over again, for the cheap, or potentially even cheaper than the first time. The lack of restrictions means that you can also splash in powerful cards that are generic or that other cards have to work even harder to make. And then people who only see a symptom and not the disease blame those cards.

I just wonder how would we even go back? MBT did something interesting where he hosted a tourney banning most of these 1-card combos. What came out on top were different decks obviously but it still had the same flow where 1 card would typically start something. I feel like the only way back would be to ban a shitton of cards which I don't think would work out.

If you've played 100,000 hours of Yu-Gi-Oh and someone has only played 10,000 you could try and assert that person whos played 10,000 hours is just a casual compared to you. But if someone has played 1,000,000 hours, then your just a casual to them. You see, it basically never ends. You can just call anyone a casual when theres a big enough time invested/experiance gap.

This doesn't apply to Crystrons but I definitely understand what you mean. Black Luster Soilders, Buster Blader, and ESPECIALLY Stardust Dragon.

Thought I'd. Make a suggestion no one will ever notice at Konami. But I think people would really follow along with a back in time. Yu-Gi-Oh in which maybe we saw just a little bit of Yugi and Joey, but the male protagonists were not the main characters that my Valentine actually was the main character and it shows her growing up in the dual world how she got to where she was before meeting Yugi and Joey and everywhere she went in between the episodes that she dealt with Yugi and Joey and then how she settled in after all of that had been finished. I suggest her because she's a strong female character and role model that managed to go through a number of changes, learning and growing along the way and yet we never really saw enough of her. How did she get into the harpies? How did she get all of them? she getting the idea to cheat using smells on cards ? Did she try anything else? Was she actually truly bad before that? After Joey called her out it was never acknowledged whether or not she stopped cheating and she still remained an extremely good duelist every time we saw her. So was she still cheating or was she using it as a crutch when she did not need to?

As someone who has been apart of Yugioh Magic and Pokémon the least egregious of this problem is Pokémon.

I like 1 card combos that lead to maybe 1-2 boss monsters/spells/traps. If a single card can build an entire board of 4-5+ interruptions then I should at least be able to negate it without worrying about them pulling out an extender that lets them go full combo anyway.

I agree one card combos are an issue in the game when it comes to future game design. But I think the main concern with one card combos is how much advantage do you get. Snake-Eyes is the extreme example of this problem since one card gets like 8 cards, 9 superior starters that start or extend plays, boards with good follow as well as being backed up by hand traps making board breakers a difficult approach and the follow up leads to a otk on the following turn even if you break the board. When I think of one card combos in decks like Marincess or Evil Twins. There end boards and resource advantage feels reasonable for what they are getting. It felt like one card combos in decks 4 to 6 years ago had a certain ceiling level.

My answer for all yugioh card problems is always the same. If it is easy to do = it isn't strong or it becomes costly. if it is hard = it is strong or it doesn't becomes costly. 1 card starters, generic monsters, or easy searchers should have a weak end board or restrict you in some way. Combo starters, archetype monsters, and hard draws should be powerful and rewarding.

Exactly! Your not just gonna play the meta and that's it and only play whatever the latest deck is. You are going to break things down.

I think 1-card combos would be mostly fine if it didn't translate to "1-card FULL combo". 1-card PARTIAL Combos would alleviate straight up brick hands, while not turning into an overwhelming force.

The ones who don't want to hear complaints about Yugioh are the fools who think they're skilled abusing the things complained about. 🤷
